The canton is in the center of Switzerland and it’s close to Lake Lucerne in the north, it is surrounded by mountain chains on all the other directions.

Nidwalden doesn’t have a high population this because in 1500 many people in the area worked as solders so many of them migrated. The government was fully established in the 14 th century, the canton worked closely with Obwalden canton but they were never one.

The region attracts tourists, the major attractions being the lake and the mountains which visitors enjoy during summer and winter. Tourism plays a major role in the region; the canton offers leisure activities which include resorts and winter sports.
